The Moorpark United Methodist Church has been a cornerstone of Christian faith in the community for over 100 years.  Combining Fowler Methodist Episcopal Church of Somis, founded in 1892, with the Wesley chapel of Epworth, founded in 1894, the present Moorpark United Methodist Church was established in 1919 under the guidance of Rev. Glenn Phillips.  The original structure still stands in downtown Moorpark at the corner of Charles and Walnut Streets.  In 1950-51, under Rev. Charles Arnold, the present site at the corner of 3rd Ave. and Flory Ave. was obtained and the current building constructed.

Through the dedicated efforts of church members, the sanctuary and fellowship hall were completed.  The Mahan, Everett and Birkenshaw families donated the materials for the fellowship hall (Mahan Hall), the organ, and the altar, respectively.  Much of the finishing work in the sanctuary and Mahan Hall was completed by volunteer labor.  Floors were laid and paintings done by T. Gartner, I.G. Tanner and Al Berch.  Stained glass windows were donated as memorials.  The women's Society of Christian Service (subsequently to become the United Methodist Women) raised money for needed equipment and materials.  Today this spirit of support continues in the update and preservation of the church buildings and grounds.

There have been 52 ministers in the church between 1892 and 2009, one of whom, Glenn Phillips, later became bishop of the Methodist Church.  The present minister, Rev. Stephen Meadors began his ministry in Spring of 2003.
